DECARBONIZATION TECHNOLOGIES IN THE CONTEXT OF THE SUSTAINABLE DEVELOPMENT PARADIGM OF UKRAINE

Abstract

The article presents a comprehensive analysis of modern decarbonization technologies and processes in Ukraine, with particular emphasis on their impact on meeting international climate commitments and achieving the goals of sustainable development. It examines key strategic documents and regulatory frameworks, including the Paris Agreement, the Nationally Determined Contribution (NDC), the National Energy and Climate Plan (NECP), and national energy strategies that define the framework conditions for decarbonization. The study analyzes the current state and prospects of development across key sectors, including energy (renewable energy sources, nuclear modernization, gradual coal phase-out), transport (electrification, development of cycling infrastructure, reduction of fossil fuel dependency), industry (energy-efficient technologies, carbon footprint reduction), and agriculture (organic farming, biogas production). Considerable attention is devoted to financial and regulatory instruments, such as the carbon tax, the emissions trading system, international financial assistance, and mechanisms for fostering innovation. The article also explores the role of marketing in promoting green technologies, raising public awareness, and attracting investments, which is a critical factor in shaping Ukraine’s positive image in the international arena. Key challenges are identified, including war-related infrastructure destruction, low carbon pricing, limited financial resources, and institutional barriers. The study concludes that the integration of technological, regulatory, and marketing approaches can accelerate Ukraine’s transition to a low-carbon economy, leveraging post-war recovery as a strategic window of opportunity for green growth.
